MNC Métis Youth Leadership Workshop on Residential, Boarding and Day Schools (2011)

Introduction

On July 20-24, 2011, the Métis National Council hosted a national youth forum in Saskatoon and Batoche, Saskatchewan. The Métis Youth Leadership Workshop on Residential, Boarding and Day Schools coincided with the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan’s annual Back to Batoche Days.

The youth workshop brought Métis youth leaders from throughout the homeland of the Métis Nation together to accomplish two objectives: To promote healing and reconciliation among Métis youth and intergenerational survivors, and to help Canadians in general and Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal youth in particular to understand the impacts that the legacy of the residential, boarding and day schools have had on Métis and other Aboriginal people and their communities. The Workshop agenda was designed to achieve these objectives.
