Estimated Costs and Funding Options

It is difficult to predict or estimate the overall cost of implementing a new electoral system. If based on federal estimate, the cost for 2008 federal election was $290 million, which equals approximately $12.39 per eligible or registered voter. For the Métis Nation, this could mean a cost of around $2.5 million (for up to 200,000 potential voters) depending on the methods and the number of registered members in the provinces. However, if a mixed system approach is used, this number could be higher in the inaugural year, in order to develop the system and put new processes in place.

Discussion:

With cost as a consideration, what are your recommendations for a new electoral process?

Should the budget for the election of an MNC President be funded jointly by the Governing Members?
