Development of an Elections Code

It is recommended that an updated MNC Electoral Code should be developed to reflect changes to the agreed to electoral system and reflect the legitimacy of the decision and process. This Code should outline the rules guiding the electoral campaign including the candidate and voting registration system, the official monitoring of candidates’ financial expenditures, outline a cap on expenditures, provisions that allow candidates equal opportunities to inform the membership of their respective platforms, official notification to the people of the Métis Nation of the upcoming election, procedures for voting and vote counting, the starting and closing dates for the official campaign and a conflict or dispute resolution process.

Discussion:

In terms of campaign financing, should there be a cap placed on expenditures for a Presidential campaign?

What else should be included in a new Métis National Council Elections Code?
